RESULTS OF THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE JUNIOR WOMEN’S WATER POLO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP-2009

In Khanty-Mansiysk on the last seventh day of the Junior Women’s Water Polo World Championship-2009 there were the matches for the gold and silver medals.

     FINAL
     NETHERLANDS – RUSSIA 9:14 (3:2; 0:4; 3:3; 3:5)

In the match for the gold medal Dutchwomen managed to get the initiative in the hands from the first minutes of the game. However already in the second quarter the Russians made the score even. In the second half of the game the Russian national team, which by the way the only one that never lost on the tournament, considerably increased gap in the csore, mostly owing to hard work of the Russian Aleksandra Antonova, she scored five goals. By results of the final match Russia won the gold medal, and the national team of the Netherlands - silver.

Ilse SINDORF, head coach of the Netherlands: - Russians deserved this victory, the Russian team played very well. Our national team started not bad, but could not hold on up to the mark till the end of game.

Mikhail NAKORYAKOV, the head coach of the Russian national team: - Yesterday's game with the USA exhausted the Netherlands, it was noticeable. The Dutchwomen reached the final with great difficulty and deserved the silver medal. It was very difficult for us to change the course of the meeting and to achieve desirable result.

     MATCH FOR 3 - 4 PLACES:
     USA – HUNGARY 11:8 (4:2; 3:3; 2:2; 2:1)

The match between the USA and Hungary was tense from the very first minute. Both teams pretended to get to the Championship final, therefore none of them wanted to give the third place. Margaret Steffens, the American water polo player who is in the top ten of best scorers of the tournament, again showed a high class in scoring the goals. With the gap of three goals the team of the United States got the third place of the World Championship.

Kyle UTSUMI, head coach of the USA: - Today was more successful, than yesterday. We played with greater energy, that led to success. As a whole I am happy with the results of the Championship; after this tournament my girls will be ready to play in adult game.

Rita KESZTHELYI, water polo player of Hungary: - The Americans played today better than we did, we were confused a little. After yesterday's loss we seem to have more energy for the today's match, but we were not lucky enough.

     MATCH FOR 5 -6 PLACES:
     CANADA – ITALY 5: 7 (1:1; 1:4; 2:1; 1:1)

The Champions of Europe, the team of Italy, began the game without spirit, but already in the second period went forward and to the end didn’t allow the Canadians to intercept the initiative. In the third period Damani NISHANT’s trainees tried to break the game course, having scored two balls into the gate of Italy, but unsuccessfully. As a result of the struggle for the fifth place the Italian appeared to be stronger, having beaten the national team of Canada with the gap of two goals.

Damani NISHANT, the head coach of the Canadian team: - It was very difficult game for us, it seems to me that we were much faster today, than earlier. But the competitor team appeared to be psychologically stronger.

Fabio CONTI, the head coach of the Italian national team: - The game was good, Canada was strong enough. I worried that after the difficult match with Russia my girls cannot concentrate, but they played at a worthy level.

     ÌÀÒ× ÇÀ 7-8 ÌÅÑÒÀ:
     AUSTRALIA – SPAIN 11:6 (3:1; 3:4; 3:1; 2:0)

The current world champion between junior teams, Australia, had some difficulties in the fight for the seventh place with the team of Spain. The water polo players of the green continent had an advantage in the game throughout the match, but the Spanish team attacked the Australian gates often enough. Despite the fact that the Australian team were leading for almost the whole match, its head coach, Peter Silagi, got so excited that he received a yellow card for too aggressive behaviour.

Peter SILAGI, head coach of Australia: - I am quite satisfied with the result of the game, but not with the actions of my girls. I would be happy if we managed to score 5 in response to every missing ball.

Claudio CAMARENA, head coach of Spain: - The team today was very tired, and it should also be taken into account that the Australian team is much stronger.

     2–3. Hanna KISTELEKI (Hungary) – 19 goals

Rita KESZTHELYI (Hungary) – 19 goals
